Preparing for the Treatment:
Before the Treatment
- All people, pets, and plants are removed from the premises.
- Be prepared to be out of the home for 24 hours.
- Walls are washed (if we are dealing with cigarette/other residue).
- Turn the furnace fan on to circulate (we can also complete this step if there is a furnace fan).
Ozone Treatment
Ozone Treatment Day!
We will circulate ozone (O3) throughout the entire home to ensure a complete home treatment. The active treatment is generally 8 hours plus overnight soak with no entry for 24 hours from when we begin. Our staff will test the ozone level in the home to ensure it safe to re-enter (<0.05 parts per million).
We will update you after the process is complete and provide you with a receipt.
After Ozone Treatment
After the Ozone Treatment is complete, you will most likely smell "Ozone" for a while afterwards. It's not actually ozone you smell but the residue of the oxidized molecules. Ozone itself has a very short half-life and decays back to oxygen within a few of hours. When ozone reacts with odors such as food or smoke they break down into simpler molecules and some of those molecules may have a light scent that lingers. Often the residual smell is described as fresh or crisp like after a thunderstorm where ozone is natually produced.
With good ventilation the residual odor will be gone within a couple of days.
Please note, that if the source of the odor is not removed then the odor will return. For example: If we treat a home for smoke but the homeowner continues to smoke in the home the odor will recur. The treatment will only last as long as the odors are not reintroduced.
